Columbarium and Prayer Garden

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)

An Honor and A Privilege

At Corpus Christi, it’s our honor and privilege to help you and your loved ones with these important end of life decisions.
Whether after a recent death, or as part of your final expense planning, we are here for you every step of the way and can help answer any questions you have about our columbarium and cremation within the Catholic Church. Please let us know how we can best assist you and your loved ones.
Niche sales are available for Corpus Christi Catholic Church Columbarium units Saint Therese “The Little Flower” and Saint Paul “The Apostle.” The total cost for a Niche, which is designed to accommodate two urns is $4,800.  On each columbarium unit, Saint Paul and Saint Peter, the end panel is specifically reserved for memorializing deceased family members or friends who may be interred elsewhere. The cost of each inscription is $1,000.00. The memorial inscriptions are now available for purchase. Niche owners pay just $700.00 for inscriptions.
If you are interested in purchasing a niche, or you have questions regarding cremation in the Catholic Church, please contact Tom Jones at: tjones@charlestondiocese.org or (803) 359-4391.

Funeral Planning

At Corpus Christi Catholic Church, it is our sacred privilege to accompany families during the emotional and tender time of a loved one’s passing. While grief is real and deep, our Catholic faith assures us that death is not the end—it is a doorway to eternal life in Christ. In that hope, we are here to support you with compassion and clarity in planning the funeral liturgy.  Please see our most frequently asked questions below to help you throughout this process.
  • When Do I Make Burial Arrangements?

Before we begin preparing the Funeral Mass, the Church asks that burial plans be confirmed. This step ensures that the body or cremated remains of your loved one will be laid to rest in a sacred, respectful, and timely manner, as taught by the Catholic Church.

Burial must take place in a sacred space, such as a Catholic cemetery or another consecrated area. If cremation is chosen, the ashes must be buried or placed in a mausoleum—they may not be scattered or kept at home. Thus, we require a proposed date of burial before we establish a funeral date, as burying the dead is a corporal work of mercy and, in God’s providence, will often provide both comfort and closure to the family.

  • When Are Funeral Masses Celebrated At Corpus Christi?

Funeral Masses at Corpus Christi are typically celebrated Monday through Friday at 11:00 AM, allowing family and friends to attend more easily. The Funeral Mass is ideally held in the parish where the deceased or their family regularly attended Sunday Eucharist. Please note that Funeral Masses cannot be scheduled on Holy Days of Obligation or during the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday).

  • What Role Does Music Play During a Funeral?

Music plays an important role in the Funeral Mass, helping to lift hearts in prayer and remembrance. The combined fee for the organist and cantor is approximately $600. This fee is sometimes included in funeral home arrangements, or it may be handled directly with the parish.

  • Are There Fellowship Opportunities for Families After The Mass?

Many families choose to host a repast or reception after the Funeral Mass, a time for fellowship, shared memories, and support. If your family wishes a repast, please inform us during the planning process. We are happy to assist in making this a meaningful part of your time together.

We are here to walk with you in faith, to help you honor your loved one, and to entrust their soul to the mercy of God. Once burial plans are confirmed, please contact the parish office so we may begin preparing the Funeral Mass with you.
