Children's Liturgy of the Word

Our Purpose

Children's Liturgy of the Word is intended to help children ages 4 to 6 years better understand the readings of the day for Sunday Mass. The Scripture text is modified for children's listening and comprehension skills.

Our Ministry

During the 11:00 A.M. Sunday Mass, children ages 4 to 6 years are dismissed from Mass before the Liturgy of the Word begins. They are brought to the Children's Liturgy Room (second room to the right) for participation in religious education, following the Diocesan Curriculum Guidelines.

The Gospel of the day is read, explained, and discussed by the Catechists. To ensure understanding, children are asked to give examples of the teachings from their own experiences. Teachings are also reinforced interactively through coloring pages or participation in craft projects.

The class schedule is consistent with the schedule for CCD - grades Kindergarten      through Seventh.
