It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of our beloved parishioner Margaret “Maggie” Cafferty, daughter of Susan and Brendan Cafferty. Maggie passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023, at the age of 15.
A funeral Mass will be offered for her departed soul on Thursday, March 2, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia. If you cannot attend the funeral Mass, the service will be broadcasted live through the Parish website.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Born in Lexington on March 19, 2007, to parents Susan and Brendan Cafferty, Maggie was born premature, and her life was marked with many medical complications. However, Maggie stayed true to her Irish heritage and fought daily to overcome her physical limitations. She always maintained a positive attitude and made the most of her relationships. To meet her was to love her.
Maggie, a proud Lexington High School student, loved her family, Disney princesses, singing and music, having her nails done, and all things purple. Maggie never let her limitations keep her from enjoying life.
She enjoyed spending time at her grandparents' house in Kiawah Island, and in Myrtle Beach with her Godfather, Jared Hendrix and his wife, Meg. She especially loved spending time in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. The highlight of her life was a Disney Cruise provided by the Make-a-Wish foundation.
Maggie loved all music, especially listening to her brother, Daniel. Her favorite songs were "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," "Skinnamarink," and "If You're Happy and You Know It."
Maggie is survived by her three siblings: Reilly and John Cafferty, and Daniel Maltz (fiancé, Renée LeValle); her best (pup) friend, Scotty; grandparents, Thomas and Loretta Cafferty, and David Marshall, Sr.; aunts and uncles, Ann Byess (Jeff), Carolyn Cafferty, and David Marshall, Jr. (Amber); and, cousins, Joseph and William Parsons, Katie and Zack True. Maggie is predeceased by her grandmother, Ruth "Betsy" Talbot Marshall. “May eternal rest grant unto Maggie, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, through Your mercy, rest in peace. May Your divine strength, comfort, and peace be received by Susan, Brendan, her beautiful family, and all who mourn her passing receive.”
