FLOYD A. VASSALOTTI March 11, 1924 ~ August 10, 2021
It is with a heavy heart we communicate the passing of our beloved parishioner Floyd Vassalotti, 97, who passed away August 10 at home. Mr. Vassalotti was born March 11, 1924 in Cresson, PA, the son of Joseph and Marie (Migone) Vassalotti. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1946 during World War II. In 1955, he married Rosalind June Park, settling in the Central New York area. They celebrated 66 years of marriage in July. He began his teaching career in secondary science, adding driver’s education and adult education, and retired as Director of Guidance from Groton Central High School in 1985.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his seven siblings, the most recent being a sister, Julia, who lived to be 105. Surviving in addition to his wife, Rosalind (Park) Vassalotti, are his daughters, Mary Kaye Dickinson and her husband, Gary, of Lexington, SC, and Jennifer L. Nicholson and her husband, Todd, of Mesa, AZ; his son, John J. Vassalotti and his fiancée Roshan McDaniel of Irmo, SC; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Dickinson) Hackett, Timothy Dickinson, Bethany (Dickinson) Davis, and Alyssa (Dickinson) Spence, Amanda Brewer-Meier, Jessica(Vassalotti) Fairchild, Jake Vassalotti, Kirsten Arvidson, and Ashley Arvidson; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Known for his outgoing personality and cheerful countenance, Floyd was loved dearly by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, celebrating family milestones and participating in local antique car shows. In his later years, he enjoyed completing and framing puzzles of antique cars, sending e-mails, and playing his soprano saxophone, given to him by his brother Louie when he was a teenager. He loved life and sharing it with others. He will be deeply missed. One of his final comments was, “Yes, I am Italian!”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi on Saturday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. If you cannot attend the public funeral services, the funeral Masses will be broadcasted live through the Parish website.
May the Lord grant eternal rest to Mr. Vassalotti, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
